About the Role
Northern Trust is looking for an experienced Senior Backup Engineer to architect, deploy, and manage enterprise-grade backup and recovery solutions across on-premises, hybrid, and cloud environments. This is a critical client-facing role that requires excellent technical expertise and strong communication skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Architect, deploy, and maintain scalable backup and recovery solutions across on-prem, hybrid, and cloud setups.
- Manage and optimize enterprise data protection technologies such as Cohesity (mandatory), Dell Data Domain, and optionally Rubrik or Commvault.
- Configure and manage backup solutions for Microsoft 365.
- Automate backup workflows, reporting, and patching using Ansible, PowerShell, Python, Bash.
- Define backup policies, retention schedules, and ensure compliance with GDPR, HIPAA, SOX standards.
- Monitor backup environments, perform capacity planning, and ensure upgrades and patch management.
- Collaborate with security & infra teams to develop and test BC/DR (Business Continuity/Disaster Recovery) plans.
- Participate in audits and prepare documentation for compliance.
Must-Have Skills
- 5+ years hands-on experience with enterprise backup platforms.
- Deep expertise in Cohesity (mandatory).
- Strong knowledge of Dell Data Domain (or equivalent).
- Minimum 3 years of experience designing and implementing backup solutions for large enterprises.
- Knowledge of Microsoft 365 backup solutions.
- Strong scripting skills (Ansible, PowerShell, Python, Bash).
- Understanding of data protection regulations and compliance requirements.
- Excellent troubleshooting, documentation, and communication skills.
Nice-to-Have Skills
- Familiarity with Rubrik, Commvault, or other backup tools.
- Knowledge of VMWare, Windows, Unix/Linux, databases.
- Experience with DevOps practices and ServiceNow.
- Understanding of immutable storage, encryption, and air-gapped backups.
