Okta Developer / IAM Developer

Job Overview

We are looking for a technically strong Okta Developer / IAM Developer with hands-on experience in Okta Identity Engine, IAM integrations, application development, and API-based integrations.

The ideal candidate should have strong development capabilities along with practical experience in designing, implementing, configuring, integrating, testing, and supporting Okta solutions across the complete SDLC.

Only strong development-oriented profiles should be submitted. Support-only, administration-heavy, or average technical profiles should be avoided.

Experience Requirements

• Minimum 5+ years of professional experience in Identity & Access Management (IAM).
• Minimum 4+ years of hands-on experience with Okta, including implementation, configuration, integration, and troubleshooting.
• For the preferred profile, candidates should have 6+ years of overall experience with at least 6 years of relevant Core Okta experience.
• Minimum 2+ years of development/scripting experience using Java, JavaScript, Node.js, Python, PowerShell, or similar technologies.
• Experience working across the complete Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC), including:
• Requirement gathering
• Solution design
• Development/configuration
• Integration
• Testing
• Deployment
• Production support
• Experience working in client-facing environments and participating in technical design and architecture discussions.

Okta / IAM Responsibilities & Technical Expertise

• Design, develop, configure, and implement Okta-based IAM solutions.
• Work extensively with Okta Identity Engine, Universal Directory, Lifecycle Management, SSO, MFA, and API Access Management.
• Configure Okta applications, authentication policies, sign-on policies, MFA, password policies, groups, group rules, and profile mappings.
• Implement SSO integrations for SaaS, enterprise, and custom applications using SAML and OIDC.
• Implement user provisioning and deprovisioning, attribute mapping, and Joiner-Mover-Leaver processes.
• Integrate Okta with Active Directory, LDAP, HR systems, SaaS applications, and custom applications.
• Configure authorization servers, scopes, claims, access policies, and OAuth/OIDC flows.
• Develop and consume Okta REST APIs for user, group, application, and identity lifecycle operations.
• Troubleshoot authentication, federation, provisioning, directory synchronization, and application-access issues.
• Work with IAM concepts including:
• Authentication & Authorization
• Federation
• Provisioning
• Reconciliation
• RBAC
• Directory Services
• Work with SAML 2.0, OAuth 2.0, OIDC, SCIM, and Just-in-Time (JIT) provisioning.

Development & Integration Skills

• Strong development/scripting experience in Java or JavaScript is mandatory.
• Experience with Node.js, Python, PowerShell, or similar technologies is an added advantage.
• Strong understanding of:
• REST APIs
• JSON
• Web Services
• API-based integrations
• Experience with Git, Jira, CI/CD, Agile, and SDLC practices.
• Knowledge of SonarQube, OpenSSL, and Keytool is preferred.
• Good understanding of SSL/TLS, certificates, PKI, DNS, HTTP/HTTPS, reverse proxy, and load balancing.

Preferred Skills

• Experience with Okta Workflows, Event Hooks, Inline Hooks, and custom integrations.
• Experience with Okta Access Gateway, particularly for legacy and on-premises applications.
• Relevant Okta certification is preferred.
• Experience integrating Okta with multiple enterprise applications and identity sources.
• Knowledge of:
• Zero Trust
• Passwordless Authentication
• FIDO2/WebAuthn
• Modern Identity Security Practices

Key Responsibilities

• Design and develop secure, scalable, and highly available Okta/IAM solutions.
• Translate business and technical requirements into effective IAM solutions.
• Participate in technical discussions, solution design, and architecture activities.
• Develop and implement Okta integrations and custom solutions.
• Ensure secure implementation of authentication, authorization, federation, and provisioning workflows.
• Troubleshoot complex technical issues across Okta and integrated applications.
• Collaborate with application, security, infrastructure, and engineering teams.
• Participate in client meetings, workshops, and technical discussions.
• Contribute to code reviews, testing, deployment, and production support.
• Lead or mentor junior team members when required.
